Ever heard of FOG waste? If not, you're not alone. It's an issue affecting the wastewater infrastructure in cities across the country, but one that is rarely mentioned. The problem is caused by the build-up of food and other materials in sanitary waste lines (FOG stands for fats, oils, and grease, but represents only part of the problem). The build-up caused by FOG and other materials can result in the direct and catastrophic release of raw sewage into the environment. The response outlined here calls not for additional infrastructure, but instead, for a series of discreet, but strategic multiscalar and participatory interventions.

Multiscalar Approach
